ABC's of ADA for Businesses

LC Disability Consulting founder, Laney Davidson speaking at the City of Pasadena on behalf of the Pacific ADA Center.

Learn what is required of businesses under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it pertains to physical accessibility, effective communication, and general nondiscrimination. Business owners will gain knowledge about resources and tools available to achieve greater business accessibility, including the California Certified Access Specialist (CASp) program and financial resources for small businesses.

Here’s the cleaned-up transcript with the numbers placed immediately before the text on each line:

0:00 Good afternoon everyone, thank you for coming to the ABCs of ADA workshop.
0:05 Presented by the City of Pasadena. My name is Michele Garrett, and I'm a project manager in the City Manager's Office.
0:11 Our office works with a lot of businesses in the downtown community.
0:18 When several businesses reported to us that there was a need for education of our small and independent business owners, along with any other business that might be interested, we quickly reached out to our Office of Accessibility with the city and put together this workshop panel for you.
0:30 Before I introduce the facilitator today, I do want to point out that we will be going straight through the presentation.
0:36 There are two presenters today, and if you have to use the restroom, you're more than welcome to go past the curtain here, and that's where you'll find one.
0:53 I hope you have a pen and paper so you can take good notes because there's a lot of good information that we'll be sharing with you today.
0:58 Without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to Lee Everett, who is our Accessibility Coordinator for the City of Pasadena.

1:03 Thank you, Michele, and thank you to the Office of Economic Development and our local Pasadena Management District, who helped to facilitate bringing together this workshop for all of you today.
1:16 We are pleased to have two speakers joining us, both of whom have traveled from Northern California.
1:22 The first is Lainey Morgado, an accessibility professional from the Pacific ADA Center.
1:28 She's going to be starting out today with an overview of the ADA requirements—sort of a training on that—so that's going to be the bulk of the presentation.
1:41 We called this the ABCs of ADA for businesses, kind of like the ABCs for businesses.
1:48 Then we'll be turning it over to Debbie Wong, a Senior Architect and Certified Access Specialist with the Division of the State Architect and also the Technical Administrator for the CASp program.
1:54 She'll be talking to you all a little bit about what the CASp program is and how you may be able to utilize it for access for your businesses.
2:01 We will have plenty of time at the end for questions, so please note your questions so that you can have those addressed at the end.
2:12 Without further ado, I'm going to turn it over to Lainey Morgado.

2:24 Good afternoon, everybody! We're after lunch, so I'm going to try and have really good energy for you all.
2:30 Again, I am Lainey Morgado, soon to be back to my maiden name, Lainey Davidson.
2:37 If you're in search of me after today's presentation, this is my final presentation under Lainey Morgado, so I'll be findable under Lainey Davidson in the future.
